Last Resort‘s Jay Hernandez, who will soon begin an arc on ABC’s Nashville, has joined the cast of Fox’s drama pilot Gang Related, TVLine has learned.

The drama project follows gang member Ryan Lopez, who is sent in to infiltrate the San Francisco Police Department and rise through its ranks — ultimately landing on the Gang Task Force. There, he must balance his obligations to his crime family with an increasing sense of loyalty to his new "family" on the SFPD.
Hernandez will play Dante Acosta, the son of the gang lord and Ryan’s best friend since childhood. He is a kind, intelligent young man and the first in his family to go to college. His father hopes that Dante will get out of the gang life, but he will find himself sucked into that world in order to protect his family and eventually rise up to take his dad's place.
Scott Rosenbaum (The Shield) will exec-produce with Chris Morgan (Fast & Furious), who penned the script. Allen Hughes (Book Of Eli) is directing the pilot.
Gang Related also stars Ramon Rodriguez (Charlie's Angels) as Ryan, Sung Kang (The Fast and the Furious) and Inbar Lavi (Underemployed).
