Exclusive: Hans Zimmer is Scoring Christopher Nolan's INTERSTELLAR; Reveals He's Already Started Writing the Music!
Jun 1st 2013, 17:57

I think we can all agree Hans Zimmer is one of the best composers in Hollywood.  If you look over his incredible thirty-year resume on IMDb, you'll see a wide variety of amazing work across every genre.  However, while he's done fantastic work over his entire career, many people have become fans because of his collaboration with Christopher Nolan on films like Inception, Batman Begins, The Dark Knight, and The Dark Knight Rises.  With Nolan hard at work on his next film, Interstellar, many have wondered if Zimmer would be involved in the project.  I'm happy to reveal the answer is yes. Yesterday, I landed an extended video interview with Zimmer for Zack Snyder's Man of Steel and towards the end of the interview, I asked if he'd be working on Interstellar.  He revealed he is indeed going to score the film and he's already started writing some of the music!  Hit the jump for more. When I asked if he'd be involved in the project, Zimmer told me: "I wrote something...and I'm writing that.  So, yes, we have started." While I expected him to be doing the music, I definitely didn't think he would have started writing it yet, especially since the film doesn't get released until November of 2014. With Zimmer and Nolan having done some amazing work together over the past decade, I truly cannot wait to hear and see their next collaboration next year.  Here's what Zimmer told me about Interstellar.  Look for the full interview very soon.  It's a good ...

Deadline.com: ‘Outlander’ Greenlighted To Series By Starz

'Outlander' Greenlighted To Series By Starz
Jun 1st 2013, 17:51

Nellie Andreeva

I’ve learned that Starz has given a series order to Outlander, a drama based on Diana Gabaldon's bestselling fantasy/romance/adventure series of books. I hear the project, from Battlestar Galactica developer Ron Moore and Sony Pictures TV, has received a 16-episode order, with production slated to begin in October in Scotland where the books are set. I hear Gabaldon let the news of the greenlight slip at Book Expo America 2013. The news comes a month after Outlander opened a writers room, with Moore hiring four scribes to work with him — Toni Graphia, Matt Roberts, Ira Behr and Anne Kenney. This marks Sony’s first series for Starz.

Outlander spans the genres of romance, science fiction, history, and adventure. It follows Claire, a married WWII combat nurse, who mistakenly steps back in time to year 1743 where she is immediately thrown into an unknown world of adventure that sends her on the run and threatens her life. When Claire is forced to marry Jamie, a chivalrous and romantic young Scottish warrior, it ignites a passionate affair that tears Claire's heart between two vastly different men in two irreconcilable lives. The seven-book series has sold over 20 million copies. An eighth novel is slated to come out this fall. The books have developed passionate fan following, with multiple companies running "Jamie and Claire" tours of Scotland, where they visit locations from the books.

There's not a lot motivating the movie industry to adopt rules like that which involve foregoing a source of revenue, and even less in it for alcohol producers to comply with such bans. But if the experience with tobacco is any indication, such rules could make a big difference.

'After Earth' Fails to Open at Number One, Lags Behind 'Now You See Me' As Top Newcomer
Jun 1st 2013, 18:37

As Sony's "After Earth" opened Friday, an irresistible force (Will Smith, with a two-decade record of #1 openings) met an unmovable object (director M. Night Shyamalan's declining box office and critical appeal), and the latter won. "After Earth," top-heavy with Smith family involvement (Smith's co-star is his son Jaden) looks to end up in third place for the weekend with a below-expectations $9.8 million for Friday. In the sci-fi movie's defense, it fell only $700,000 below repeat #1 "Fast and Furious" (Universal) which dropped around 70% from its opening day. Lionsgate's less-heralded "Now You See Me," featuring a cast of respected if not box office-marquee actors Jesse Eisenberg, Morgan Freeman and Michael Caine, looks to eke out a narrow #2 showing after grossing $10 million its first day, above what was anticipated. Despite the grim initial news for Sony (facing a $135 million production budget, which means that international will need to gross an unlikely multiple of five...

It’s something of an understatement to say that Candice Glover was ready for anything during her Season 12 run on American Idol.

After a brutal, unexplained cut during the Season 11 Vegas round, Candice returned home to St. Helena Island, SC, and listened to country, folk, blues and a lot of Taylor Swift on an effort to become a more well-rounded artist. In the process, she discovered an inner confidence that allowed her to face head-on a multitude of Internet message-board comments about her appearance and the judges’ failure to identify her as “commercial” or “the total package.”

Candice stopped by TVLine HQ to discuss this epiphany — and how it informed her epic rendition of “Don’t Make Me Over” as well as her coronation anthem “I Am Beautiful.” Not only that, but we get deep dives into her rearrangements of Paula Abdul’s “Straight Up,” Drake’s “Find Your Love” and The Cure’s “Lovesong” — and find out more info on why she feared her Group Round “Hit ‘Em Up Style (Oops!),” which early song choice she wishes she could take back, how she understood Randy, Nicki, Keith and Jimmy not putting her in their Top 3s on Top 7 results night and what she thought of Randy’s “church girl” critiques.
