SimpleFixes: Choose Your Own Keywords
Apr 29th 2013, 12:30

If filmmakers selected the “KeyWords” for their films (and did it without overhyping their films in the process), they could be embedded in the film’s metadata from the earliest online post.

Keywords are important when it comes to Search.  Search is important when it comes to discovery.  If organizations are searching for “social justice” films for a series and you’ve included that as a keyword in your metadata, you’ve just made their list and perhaps will get screened as a result.

Festivals of course can suggest this.  Now ideally their would be a standardized list of 150 words that everyone uses.  For now, I have encouraged folks at SFFS to use something based on IMDB’s most popular keywords.   When we have settled on a list, I will share it.
