'Dexter' Is Not Done Yet
Mar 24th 2013, 00:15

If the rumors are true, death may be coming to "Dexter" ... but not before a new cast of characters hops on board.

TV Guide is reporting that "One Tree Hill" vet Bethany Joy Lenz has joined the Showtime series as Cassie, "an attractive former finance executive looking for a quieter life" who moves in next door to Dexter.

EW has also confirmed that "Last Resort" actor Darri Ingolfsson has booked a recurring role in the show's eighth season as an antique dealer of old medieval equipment who starts dating Dexter's neighbor, presumably Cassie.

Lenz and Ingolfsson will be joined by "Walking Dead" actor Nick Gomez, Sean Patrick Flanery, Charlotte Rampling and Jennifer Carpenter, who will also appear in Season 8 of "Dexter."

Will Lenz, Ingolfsson and the rest of the gang be another group of victims for Dexter and Deb? It's possible, especially considering the amount of victims the serial killers managed to rack up in their first seven seasons.

Season 8 Of "Dexter" will premiere on Sun., June 30 at 9 p.m. ET on Showtime.

Schwarzenegger Mentor Dies
Mar 24th 2013, 00:46

LOS ANGELES -- Joe Weider, a legendary figure in bodybuilding who helped popularize the sport worldwide and played a key role in introducing a charismatic young weightlifter named Arnold Schwarzenegger to the world, died Saturday. He was 93.

Weider's publicist, Charlotte Parker, told The Associated Press that the bodybuilder, publisher and promoter died of heart failure at his home in Los Angeles' San Fernando Valley.

"I knew about Joe Weider long before I met him," Schwarzenegger, who tweeted the news of his old friend's death, said in a lengthy statement posted on his website. "He was the godfather of fitness who told all of us to be somebody with a body. He taught us that through hard work and training we could all be champions."

A bodybuilder with an impressive physique himself, Weider became better known in later years as a behind-the-scenes guru to the sport.

He popularized bodybuilding and spread the message of health and fitness worldwide with such publications as Muscle & Fitness, Flex and Shape. Schwarzenegger himself is the executive editor of Muscle & Fitness and Flex.

He created one of bodybuilding's pre-eminent events, the Mr. Olympia competition, in 1965, adding to it the Ms. Olympia contest in 1980, the Fitness Olympia in 1995 and the Figure Olympia in 2003.

He also relentlessly promoted Schwarzenegger, who won the Mr. Olympia title a then-record seven times, including in 1980 and every year from 1970 through 1975.

"Every sport needs a hero, and I knew that Arnold was the right man," he said.

Weider brought Schwarzenegger to the United States early in his career, where he helped train the future governor of California as well as aided him in getting into business. Schwarzenegger also said Weider helped land him his first movie role, in the forgettable film "Hercules in New York," by passing off the Austrian-born weightlifter to the producers as a German Shakespearean actor.

"Joe didn't just inspire my earliest dreams; he made them come true the day he invited me to move to America to pursue my bodybuilding career," the actor said in his statement. "I will never forget his generosity. One of Joe's greatest qualities is that he wasn't just generous with his money; he freely gave of his time and expertise and became a father figure for me."

Weider also mentored numerous other bodybuilders.

Born in Canada in 1919, Weider recalled growing up in a tough section of Montreal.

Just like the apocryphal tale of the skinny kid who starts working out after a bully kicks sand in his face, Weider said he was indeed a small, skinny teenager picked on by bullies when he came across the magazine Strength.

He had tried to join a local wrestling team, he said, but was turned down by the coach who feared he was so small he'd be hurt.

Inspired by the magazine, he built his own weights from scrap parts found in a railroad yard and pumped them relentlessly.

Word of his efforts got around and he was invited to join a weightlifting club.

"When I saw the gym, saw the guys working out, supporting one another, I was mesmerized," he recalled.

He won his first bodybuilding ranking at age 17, and soon after began to publish his first magazine, Your Physique.

Later he started a mail-order barbell business, and in 1946 he and his younger brother staged the first Mr. Canada contest in at Montreal's Monument National Theater. At the same time, they formed the International Federation of Bodybuilders.

In recent years, Weider donated much of his bodybuilding memorabilia to the University of Texas at Austin, which opened the Joe and Betty Weider Museum of Physical Culture in 2011.

He is survived by his wife.

Tilda Swinton Sleeps In Glass Box At Museum
Mar 24th 2013, 02:13

Ah, the wonders of New York's Museum of Modern Art. Van Gogh, Picasso, Tilda Swinton sleeping in a box...

What's that? Yes, the eccentric 52-year-old actress, known for her roles in films such as "Michael Clayton" and "We Need to Talk About Kevin," surprised museum patrons Saturday by appearing in an exhibit called "The Maybe, in which, the New York Daily News reports, she "slept on an unadorned white pallet in a transparent display case."

According to Gothamist, which has photos of the exhibit, the actress will be appearing sporadically all year. "Tilda Swinton will be doing unannounced, random performance art pieces sleeping in a glass box in the museum," a source told the site. "Today is the first performance. Each performance lasts the whole day the museum is open."

The MoMA said in a statement:

"An integral part of The Maybe's incarnation at MoMA in 2013 is that there is no published schedule for its appearance, no artist's statement released, no no museum statement beyond this brief context, no public profile or image issued. Those who find it chance upon it for themselves, live and in real—shared—time: now we see it, now we don't."

Swinton debuted "The Maybe," a collaboration with artist Cornelia Parker, in 1995 in London, and later reprised it in Rome.

Collider: VEEP Season One Blu-Ray Review

Collider
VEEP Season One Blu-Ray Review
Mar 23rd 2013, 13:01

Julia Louis-Dreyfus won her third Emmy in as many series for Veep and it's not hard to see why. She's more than just a funny lady here – though to be sure, you may not see anyone quite as funny on television today. Underneath her hapless vice president's pratfalls and panic attacks, she conveys a strange and abiding sadness. This figure is smart and capable. She wants to make the world a better place. She possesses the tools to leave the government in a better place than she found it. But by the very nature of the system in which she's trapped, all her assets come to naught. She can only flail about in a mad effort to protect her image and her standing, a process as hysterical as it is quietly troubling. Hit the jump for my full review. And, as the first season of Veep makes disturbingly clear, it may reflect how politics in Washington D.C. actually works. Once a fast-track Senator on the road to great things, Selina Meyer (Dreyfus) finds herself on the losing end of a presidential bid and shunted into the Vice President's office. Now stuck as the much maligned appendix of the federal government, she struggles with such monumental issues as a meet-and-greet at a local yogurt store, or a trip to Camden Yards to promote good nutrition. She and her staff – consisting of equal parts ambitious weasels, simpering yes-men and a few genuine good eggs just doing their best to stay above ...

Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick Talk Amazon Studios ZOMBIELAND Pilot; Starts 2 Weeks After Movie Ended, Aiming for 13 Episode First Season
Mar 24th 2013, 03:25

When director Ruben Fleischer's 2009 film Zombieland turned out to be a huge hit, talk immediately turned to a prospective sequel for the comedy.  Since Zombieland was originally envisioned as a weekly TV series by screenwriters Rhett Reese and Paul Wernick before it was reimagined as a feature film, most figured the sequel would be on a fast track to theaters.  However, like many projects in Hollywood, what sounded like a good idea never made it to the starting gate, and Fleischer recently told us that the chances of Zombieland 2 coming to fruition are very slim.  However, if you've been waiting to see more post-apocalyptic adventures with Columbus, Tallahassee, Wichita and Little Rock, you're not going to have to wait much longer. As we've previously reported, Amazon Studios and Sony TV have teamed up to create a pilot for a Zombieland TV series that continues the story on the small screen, with new actors playing the key roles.  While we knew the pilot had recently been shot, details about the show have been under wraps.  So when I sat down a few hours ago with Reese and Wernick for G.I. Joe: Retaliation (which they also wrote), I got an update on the pilot.  The big news is the show starts two weeks after the movie ended and it's got the same tone (they're not trying to make another Walking Dead).  Amazon is going to put the pilot online next month and if enough people watch, it's going to get a ...
