Celebrity Campaigns Ignite Kickstarter Crowdfunding Aug 19th 2013, 21:07, by Anne Thompson It looks like all of Spike Lee's noisy tub-thumping for his recent successful Kickstarter campaign was not only good for him and his new movie but for the site itself. 47% of his backers had never visited the site before reports the site's Perry Chen, Yancey Strickler and Charles Adler in a blog post entitled "The Truth About Spike Lee and Kickstarter" in which they defend celebrity crowdfunding campaigns. Lee and Zach Braff ignited controversy with their well-hyped Kickstarter fundraising at the same that their fans happily forked over the cash for them to make their movies.  See the Kickstarter post below: Last week, "The Newest Hottest Spike Lee Joint" reached its funding goal thanks to more than 5,000 backers. While filmmakers like Steven Soderbergh cheered Spike Lee's project, outlets like CNBC and Bloomberg accused him of abusing Kickstarter and taking money from other creators.
