EXCLUSIVE: ABC is taking a contemporary spin on the legend of King Arthur with Excalibur, an action drama project from hot feature scribe Jason Fuchs (Ice Age: Continental Drift) and producer Greg Berlanti, which, in a competitive situation, has landed at the network with a put pilot commitment. Written by Fuchs, Excalibur centers on a young Brooklyn man who is forever changed when his life is saved by a beautiful stranger who reveals that he is the last living descendant of the very real King Arthur and that he is now at the center of an eons-old shadow war between the descendants of the Knights of the Roundtable and the forces of dark magic. Warner Bros. TV and studio-based Berlanti Prods. are producing, with Fuchs, Berlanti and Melissa Kellner Berman executive producing. Excalibur expands ABC’s fantasy footprint, established with the Once Upon A Time franchise. It stems from a blind script deal Fuchs signed with WBTV earlier this year. The sale at ABC reunites him with the network where he wrote and executive produced the drama Big Thunder, based on the Disney ride, last season. The supernatural Western went to pilot and was in serious contention for a series order. On the feature side, Fuchs is currently writing the globe-trotting actioner, The Clock Without a Face, for Ivan Reitman’s The Montecito Picture Co. and Paramount; and the supernatural thriller, Break My Heart 1,000 Times for Gold Circle. WME-repped Berlanti Prods.’ recent sales include the Arrow spinoff Flash at the CW, The Mysteries Of Laura, which has a production commitment at NBC, and political thriller President X at TNT.
