Director James Mangold has unveiled a new image from the set of The Wolverine, and in case you had somehow forgotten, this photo is a nice reminder that Hugh Jackman lifted bunches of weights in preparation for the film. The title character looks to be hanging out on a fairly gorgeous beach in Omishima, Japan, but I doubt a moment of luxury is in the cards for The Wolverine. Mangold said that the scene in question involved the character chopping some wood, and this set image makes a nice contrast with the darker, nighttime official image that was released yesterday. Hit the jump to take a look at the set photo. The film also stars Will Yun Lee, Hiroyuki Sanada, Brian Tee, Rila Fukushima, Tao Okamoto and Svetlana Khodchenkova. The Wolverine opens in 3D on July 26th. Via James Mangold's Twitter. Here's the official synopsis for The Wolverine: Based on the celebrated comic book arc, this epic action-adventure takes Wolverine, the most iconic character of the X-Men universe, to modern day Japan. Out of his depth in an unknown world he faces his ultimate nemesis in a life-or-death battle that will leave him forever changed. Vulnerable for the first time and pushed to his physical and emotional limits, he confronts not only lethal samurai steel but also his inner struggle against his own immortality, emerging more powerful than we have ever seen him before.
