As AutolycusUsually when Rufus Sewell is around swords, he’s the villain (in movies, we mean, not in real life, unless he’s been banned from the Tower Of London and we just don’t know it). But in a turnabout from his roles in such films as A Knight’s Tale and The Legend Of Zorro, he’s snapped up a heroic turn as one of Dwayne Johnson’s fellow warriors in Hercules.
Director Brett Ratner already has Johnson on board to star and provide the main muscle, and he’s also recruited Aksel Hennie for some Norwegian flare. Now comes the obligatory Brit, with Sewell signed on as Autolycus.
Hercules, adapted from the Thracian Wars comics run, finds the legendary hero renouncing his mythological origins and working as a mercenary. When the Thracian King asks him to help train his men fight an upcoming battle, Herc is forced to question everything he once believed, including his own past.
Sewell, who is currently treading the boards in Old Times at the Harold Pinter Theatre, will next be seen in indie movies The Sea and The Devil’s Rapture. We just hope he’s ready for 4:30am cardio with the Rock. Team Bring It!
