In terms of gender parity and/or proving that female audiences both want to go to movies and will support female-driven entertainments, no films have been as important in the last several years as Bridesmaids and the first Twilight film. One proved that women and men would flock to a broad character comedy about women while the other proved that a genre film seen almost exclusively by female audiences could still pull in blockbuster numbers. Those two ideas, which arguably shouldn't be novel ones, will likely come together in 20th Century Fox's The Heat, which opens June 29th.
