In the "The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo" and its sequels, the title character's supernatural hacking skills allow her journalist collaborator free access to the laptops of all the bad guys. Instantly, all types of incriminating information appears at his fingertips, and giant, world-remaking scoops flow. And of course no one in officialdom ever finds out how he got them. The means are nefarious and criminal. But the ends are so satisfying (evil businessmen, bureaucrats, spies, thugs & abusers brought to justice or worse) that the reader is okay with it.
