Los Angeles – June 27, 2013 – Seven Stars Media Chairman, Bruno Wu announced today the formation of a new Chinese domestic film company. Under the Seven Stars Constellation Film Company Ltd. label, it will focus on the development, production and distribution of Chinese language films for the burgeoning Chinese market. In addition, Seven Stars Constellation will also handle theatrical distribution for Seven Stars non-Chinese language titles as well.
Seven Stars Constellation has immediately created a joint venture with one of China's most experienced and successful production companies, Liu Yiwei's Joyful Film. Liu Yiwei led the producing team on the Chinese mega hit LOST IN THAILAND, and co-developed and co-produced the subsequent Chinese box office hit FINDING MR. RIGHT. Joyful Film has a strong development slate of ten projects, three of which are close to being greenlit.
"The recent box office successes of Chinese language films shows that the marketplace will accept and support local films as long as they satisfy the audience with subjects and characters they can relate to", Wu stated. "They need to be well made, entertaining, and appeal to the contemporary mindset of the young moviegoer. I couldn't be more excited to have found such great partners."
Aside from this expansion into Chinese language production, Seven Stars Films produces and distributes high quality English language films, and Wu is an executive producer on both James Gray's THE IMMIGRANT starring Joaquin Phoenix, Jeremy Renner and Marion Cotillard, which recently premiered at the Cannes Film Festival, and GRACE OF MONACO starring Nicole Kidman, both slated for a US opening this year.
Seven Stars previously announced joint ventures with commercial, high-profile filmmakers under the collective Storm Entertainment banner – director Justin Lin (Fast and Furious 6) formed Perfect Storm Entertainment, producer Avi Arad (The Amazing Spider Man, Iron Man) to develop superhero franchise properties under Super Storm, and French producer Pierre Ange Le Pogam (Taken, Hitman) forming Angel Storm which will develop and produce European-Chinese co-productions and franchises. In addition, Song Ge, former CEO of Wanda Film Productions, where he was responsible for both the production and distribution divisions, will join Seven Stars Films and Storm Entertainment as a company director. Ge will also harness additional financing for both development and production for the groups.
These three will work very closely with Constellation to create an overall synergy where each side can consult and collaborate with respect to projects developed and produced for each separate company to maximize both artistic and commercial value.
