Consumers in Europe are getting better deals on tablets this week, as both Amazon and Barnes & Noble dropped prices on their devices.
Barnes & Noble, which sells Nook products only in the U.K. and not the rest of Europe, is discounting its device in order to clear out inventory as it prepares to stop manufacturing tablets. Amazon may be responding in part to those price drops, but it is also discounting Kindle Fires in the rest of Europe and in the U.S.
Barnes & Noble’s U.K. sale runs through July 31 and marks the 7-inch Nook HD tablet down to £99 for the 8 GB model (it had started at £129) and the 9-inch Nook HD+ to £149 (from £179).
Amazon, meanwhile, didn’t specify an end date for its promotions. In the U.K., the 7-inch Kindle Fire HD now starts at £139 for 16 GB (down from £159). In the rest of Europe, the Kindle Fire HD is marked down to €169, from €199. As The Digital Reader notes, Amazon also put the Kindle Fire HD on sale in the U.S. this week, marking it down to $169 from $199.
