IFC Films Picks Up Emma Roberts, John Cusack-Starring Sex Shop Comedy 'Adult World'
May 10th 2013, 15:07

IFC Films today announced that they have acquired North American rights to Scott Coffrey's "Adult World," starring Emma Roberts, Evan Peters, and John Cusack, fresh off its world premiere at last month's Tribeca Film Festival.

Roberts stars in the film as Amy, a poet yet to get any traction in her career and still living with her parents in a small upstate New York town. Looking for an easy job, she accepts a position at a local sex shop owned by an elderly couple where she meets another local boy (Peters) working at the store. Meanwhile, Amy pursues a mentorship with a reclusive poet (Cusack) looking for both the inspiration and final push needed for her to finally find success.

"Adult World" was produced by Justin Nappi and Kevn Turen of Treehouse Pictures, in addition to Joy Gorman, Alex Goldstone and Manu Gargi. The film is the second feature for director Scott Coffrey following 2005's "Elle Parker," and the first for writer Andy Cochran.

"Scott Coffey has directed a charming film with a terrific breakout performance from Emma Roberts," said Sundance Selects/IFC Films President Jonathan Sehring. "We are excited about the filmmaker's shared enthusiasm about bringing this film to audiences as a day and date release."

No release timeframe has been released at this time, but IFC Films plans to release the film theatrically later this year, day and date with a VOD release.
