It's Just The Franchise Necessities: Disney Prepping Live Action Reboot Of 'The Jungle Book'
Jul 9th 2013, 19:14, by Kevin Jagernauth

Guys listen, don't get so outraged, because from a purely clinical business approach this makes total sense. Disney tried -- they really did -- to relaunch older/new franchises but they botched it and audiences didn't respond. "John Carter" and "The Lone Ranger" will go down as expensive, money-losing flops and one could argue that "Tron: Legacy" barely did what the studio wanted (it's hardly shocking that talk around that sequel has quieted down -- "Star Wars" will fill the sci-fi niche and then some is our guess...) And with studio going live-action with "Cinderella," starting production later this year, why not use another proven title which everyone already knows back to front?

So here we go with "The Jungle Book," as THR reports Disney has hired Justin Marks, who penned an early draft of the studio's "20,000 Leagues Under The Sea" reboot, to write the script. Hooray! Listen, it's just the bare, franchise necessities which is why this is happening, though since Rudyard Kipling's stories are in the public domain it means they have competition from Warner Bros. who have their own Mowgli feature brewing, penned by "Harry Potter" dude Steve Kloves.

So keep calm, carry on -- it's another day at Disney where they figure what to make next that they can turn into toys, merchandise and theme park rides. You really shouldn't be too surprised at this point.
