Papa Vinyard here, now here's a little somethin' for ya...

You know that Peter Pan update that Joe Wright is probably going to direct? Well, it would seem that they've found their villain in Javier Bardem. According to Deadline, Bardem has been offered the role of Blackbeard, the leader of the pirates that young PAN will be squaring off against. Weird that they're making such a large change to the source material by changing the primary villain from Captain Hook to the real-life Blackbeard, who was also known as Edward Teach. You'd think Hook was inseparable from this property; maybe that's the reason for the change, to let PAN take the center stage for his own story, for once. Also, wasn't Blackbeard just the villain of PIRATES OF THE CARIBBEAN: ON STRANGER TIDES??

Ah, who cares. Javier Bardem is going to be playing a scraggly, vicious pirate. This is not a cause for lament, but rather celebration! The dude's been playing nefarious like it's nobody's business in THE COUNSELOR, SKYFALL, and NO COUNTRY FOR OLD MEN, and I can't wait to see him in whatever crazy getup they come up with for his character.

But I still don't know if they're going for a Channing Tatum-esque lead or a traditional, young cast; I expect we'll get clarification on that sooner than later, given how much steam this project seems to be picking up.
