Javier Bardem Offered Blackbeard Role In Joe Wright's 'Pan'
Nov 16th 2013, 01:50, by Kevin Jagernauth

A Peter Pan origin story movie? Yawn. Even with Joe Wright attached to direct, "Pan" seems like yet another big studio play at a franchise, chasing a property and project that seems only to exist for nostalgia. But consider us now interested thanks to this latest development.

Javier Bardem has been offered the role of the villainous Blackbeard in the movie. And hell, as Bardem has proven across a number of films—"No Country For Old Men," "Skyfall," "The Counselor"—give him some wacky hair, and he'll take care of the rest. Deadline has some new details on the Jason Fuchs ("Ice Age: Continental Drift") script, revealing that it'll follow an orphan who gets sent to Neverland, saves the natives, fights the pirates and basically becomes a hero, we guess. And of course, he'll show down against Blackbeard.

It'll be interesting to see if Bardem bites since he generally doesn't do blockbusters, though the cachet of Wright helming is likely an attractive factor. We'll see.
