Matthew McConaughey Confirms He's Taken Role In Christopher Nolan's 'Interstellar'
Apr 3rd 2013, 12:24

Nope, this isn't any April Fools. Last week, Christopher Nolan fans and those keeping an eager eye on the recent choices of Matthew McConaughey got a nice surprise when it was revealed that the actor was offered the lead in the director's upcoming sci-fi flick "Interstellar." And now, it looks like he's taken the part.

The StarTribune recently chatted with McConaughey who's currently shooting "True Detective," Cary Fukunaga's crime series for HBO (and another project we're eagerly awaiting), and when asked about "Interstellar" he told the paper "I'm confirming" that he had accepted the part in Nolan's movie. And that's it. As always, no details on the character or anything else, and considering how locked up Nolan keeps intel regarding his movies, we'll just have to wait until the next morsel drops.

But, McConaughey plus Nolan? All right, all right, all right... It'll be a return to the genre for the actor who hasn't really done any sci-fi since 1997's "Contact," and this one is a potential doozy. Originated from a long developing script by Jonathan Nolan, "Interstellar" will deal with time travel and alternate dimensions, telling the story of a group of explorers who go through a wormhole. Nolan is using that old script, combining it with an original idea of his own, and giving it a rewrite, so who knows where he's taken that premise. But we'll see the results when it opens on November 7, 2014.
