Want to blast into space with a movie star?
At a charity auction held in Cannes, France on May 23 for the Foundation For Aids Research, one man answered that question with a bid of $1.5 million -– and walked away the winner.
If all goes according to plan, the bidder -– 37-year-old Russian real estate mogul Vasily Klyukin -– will spend a few days in training with actor Leonardo DiCaprio before flying to space on Virgin Galactic's SpaceshipTwo, Reuters reported.
"I want to be a bit daring," Klyukin told Reuters. Later in the auction, two more seats on the same flight brought in another $2.3 million.
Leo isn't the only celebrity who has signed up with Virgin Galactic for a trip to space. The commercial spaceflight company last year announced Ashton Kutcher as its "500th future astronaut customer." Brad Pitt, Angelina Jolie, Tom Hanks and Katy Perry, have also reportedly signed up to be making trips on Virgin Galactic.
Virgin Galactic plans to launch its SpaceShipTwo spacecraft into space for the first time by the end of 2013, according to Space.com.
