It's not exactly a surprise, but it's still an unqualified triumph. Kicking off summer 2013 in high style, Disney's Iron Man 3 debuted in America with $175.3 million. That's a 2.57x weekend multiplier, which is right in line with pretty much every single Marvel movie released since Iron Man five years ago this weekend. For those who don't recall, Iron Man stunned box office observers by debuting with $102 million at the start of summer 2008 before ending up with $318 million domestic and $585 million worldwide. Two years later, Iron Man 2 debuted with $128 million and grossed $312 million domestic and $623 million worldwide. So the first sequel had an opening weekend jump of 25% while the third hopped over the second film's Fri-Sun debut by 38%.
