Director James Wan (Saw) is taking on a realistic haunted house story with his upcoming horror film, The Conjuring. The story centers on the Perron family, whose house is plagued by unexplained supernatural phenomena. The Perrons (Ron Livingston and Lili Taylor) call in expert paranormal investigators Ed and Lorraine Warren (Patrick Wilson and Vera Farmiga) to put an end to their troubles. During our set visit, Wan talked about the film's tone and how it compared to his previous works, sticking to the true-life story, paying homage to classic horror movies, a possible film franchise and more. Question: Could you tell us about the tone of this film? Insidious had a very dark tone, but it had some kookiness to it. Does this have some lightness to it, as well? James Wan: No, this is definitely a bit more serious. I wanted to make that a fun, creepy, sort of tongue-in-cheek movie, to some degree. But just the nature of what this film is, and the fact that it's based on people's stories, I want to honor that as much as I possibly can and ground it in reality as much as I possibly could.
