'Orange Is the New Black' Creator on Series Getting Renewed Ahead of Its Debut: 'Netflix Has Balls' Jul 3rd 2013, 17:49, by Jethro Nededog Netflix just handed out a season renewal to its fourth original series, "Orange Is the New Black," more than a week before it premieres July 11. "Look, it works for me," showrunner Jenji Kohan said on a press call on Tuesday. "I think it's terrific, and I think it shows, at least in my case, that Netflix has balls. They were just like, 'We like it, we believe in it, we're going to pick it up.' I'm just grateful. I think it's awesome."
