Watch: Sundance Winner Doc 'Cutie and the Boxer' Plumbs Troubled Marriage of Japanese Artist Ushio Shinohara
Jul 3rd 2013, 18:13, by Ryan Lattanzio

The official trailer for the documentary "Cutie and the Boxer," which received raves at Sundance where it won the documentary directing award, has arrived. A chronicle of Japanese artist Ushio Shinohara's chaotic 40-year marriage to his wife and assistant Noriko, the film is directed by Zachary Heinzerling. The now 80-year-old painter arrived in the New York art scene in the 1960s, and is known for his signature use of boxing gloves rather than a brush to create exuberantly colorful murals. In a Sundance review, Eric Kohn of Indiewire calls the film a "beautifully shot, painfully intimate look at the aging couple's struggle to survive amid personal and financial strain [that] is both heartbreaking and intricately profound." Check out Indiewire's interview with the director here. RADiUS-TWC acquired North American and French rights to "Cutie and the Boxer" at Sundance. The film hits theaters August 16th.
