The TV series adaptation of 12 Monkeys has moved one step closer to becoming a reality. Syfy has greenlit a pilot for the TV adaptation of Terry Gilliam's 1995 sci-fi film, with production scheduled to begin in November. Gilliam is not involved with the TV series, but the show will draw heavily from his feature film as the plot follows the journey of a time traveler from the post-apocalyptic future who appears in present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate the human race. Terra Nova and Nikita scribes Terry Matalas and Travis Ficket wrote the pilot script and will serve as co-executive producers. Casting has yet to begin, but the 60-minute 12 Monkeys pilot is being produced by Universal Cable Productions and Atlas Entertainment. Should Syfy take a liking to the pilot, we could see a 12 Monkeys TV series on the air come next year. Hit the jump to read the press release.
