Joss Whedon has been open in saying his early drafts of The Avengers featured an additional member of the team: The Wasp. He eventually dropped the character, saying the entire movie was “too Wasp-y,” and instead focused on the characters that had already been established. (Of note, he’ll finally get to introduce a new female superhero in Avengers: Age of Ultron: Scarlet Witch.)
Even though Wasp got cut early, storyboards and concept art are created months, sometimes years before a script is firmed up. That’s what happened with The Avengers. A few more animatic sequences by storyboard artist Federico D'Alessandro have popped online that show many of the iconic visual moments from the Battle of New York in The Avengers, with several major changes. The most striking is there’s another member of the team: The Wasp.
Below, check out four early animatics from the film that not only feature the Wasp, but feature extended action scenes, more dialogue, alternate character motivations and more.

Here’s the first video with Wasp. Be aware, she doesn’t play a very big part.
Notice how it seems like Thanos betrays Loki in the above scene, sending the wrong army at the beginning. Also, the Bruce Banner moment was much earlier in the sequence, suggesting he was already with the team. As for Wasp, you see her on a few occasions. She’s the woman without the guns.
Here are a few more animatics from the scene. Each has some parallels to the final film, but most expand on what we eventually saw in great detail.
