For decades, tracking down a classic film (legally) was a fairly straightforward affair -- one merely had to answer yes-no question that evolved subtly but not drastically every few years: Is it available on VHS/laserdisc/DVD/Blu-ray? In the pre-Internet era, that search wasn't always easy, granted. And while the DVD revolution brought many advantages (preservation, scholarship, gag reels) and restored many beloved films, it also left cinephiles puzzled by the patchwork
