Paul Giamatti is venturing into series television as the star of an FX pilot.
The cabler has placed an order for Hoke, an hour-long darkly comedic drama that finds the Emmy winner playing a hardboiled and possibly insane homicide detective by the name of Hoke Mosely in Miami circa 1985.

The project, written by Scott Frank (Out of Sight) and produced by Curtis Hanson, Carol Fenelon, Dan Carey as well as Giamatti and Frank, is based on Charles Willeford’s series of novels Sideswipe, New Hope for the Dead and The Way We Die Now.
Production on the pilot is scheduled to begin later this year in Miami.
