Last night's season debuts of former FX comedies It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia and The League on FXX outstripped ABC, CBS and NBC from 10-11 PM in adults 18-34 and men 18-34, FXX boasted this afternoon, noting those viewers are its target audience. Both comedy series moved last night from FX network to FXX, to help launch the latter. FXX is available in 26 million fewer homes than is FX.
The Season 9 debut of Sunny at 10 PM on FXX clocked 757,000 viewers – 527,000 of whom were aged 18-34, and 396,000 of them men 18-34. The show clocked 30,000 more guys in the age bracket than had the show's Season 8 opener on FX, which is good news, given that they are FXX's target audience. Among adults 18-34, the debut retained 85% of its Season 8 debut, FXX said, which means the women didn't migrate as well as did the guys.
At 10:30 PM, the Season 5 debut of The League grew from its Sunny lead-in, attracting an average of 786,000 viewers. Of that audience, 537,000 were 18-34 and 383,000 were men 18-34. FXX said the show retained 92% of its Season 4 opening night crowd among adults 18-34 (537,000 of 584,000), but did not mention how last night's debut compared to the previous season starter among guys 18-34, which is FXX's target audience.
"To have just launched the channel three days ago and get these ratings is thrilling. The delivery of these shows needs no qualification, they are proven appointment viewing for young adult audiences," FX Networks and FX Productions CEO John Landgraf said this afternoon.
