BBC continues to stoke the Whovian fire over its upcoming 50th anniversary special, “The Day of the Doctor” with a newly released prequel.
The online minisode stars the eighth doctor, Paul McGann. Introduced in 1996 in a one-off “Doctor Who” movie, the revelations in this six-minute prequel may or may not upset the numerical order of “Doctor Who.” No more spoilers!

Written by executive producer Steven Moffat, the episode brings together the outgoing 11th Doctor (Matt Smith), the 10th Doctor (David Tennant), current companion Clara (Jenna Coleman), former companion Rose (Billie Piper) and the mysterious echo Doctor played by John Hurt.
The episode marks the first of Smith's final two episodes in the role. He announced in June that he's leaving the series saying he felt it was time to move on. After a very secret search for his replacement, showrunner Moffat announced in August that the 12th Doctor is veteran Scottish actor Peter Capaldi ("World War Z," "The Hour"). He'll make his first appearance during the Christmas special when the 11th Doctor regenerates.

Additionally, BBC America has a pretty epic lineup of specials and marathons planned that will lead up to the 50th Anniversary episode as well as the film, "An Adventure in Space and Time," which explains how the "Doctor Who" series came to be in the early-60s.
“The Day of the Doctor” will simulcast in more than 75 countries on Saturday, Nov. 23 at 2:50 p.m. ET.
