It's been a busy week in the world of crowd-funded movie projects: Fan-favorite film critic Harry Knowles managed to secure funding for another year of his web series, "Ain't It Cool with Harry Knowles" and writer-director John Herzfeld (2 Days in the Valley) reached and exceed the goal for his halted project, Reach Me. While the former project will feature such guest stars as Wes Craven, Danny Boyle, Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Bruce Campbell and more dropping by for a chat, the latter will star Sylvester Stallone, Lauren Cohan, Ryan Kwanten, Terry Crews, Tom Berenger, Thomas Jane, Kevin Connolly and Kelsey Grammer, just to name a few. Today's Indie Spotlight, however, is about a fan film that's already successfully raised funds through crowd-sourcing and then delivered on that promise in a big way. From director Wade K. Savage comes the short film Fallout: Lanius, inspired by Bethesda's video game, Fallout: New Vegas. It's a great example of what a passionate filmmaking team can do even on a shoestring budget and further evidence that the world of videogames is ripe for the right kind of movie adaptations. While it's an entertaining watch for those of you who are unfamiliar with the Fallout: New Vegas, it's a whole other level of enjoyment for fans of the game (especially if you stick around until the end).
