"Tron: Legacy" director Joseph Kosinski's "Oblivion" has nearly landed, but the early word is out on the Tom Cruise starring sci-fi action flick. Our review is somewhere in the middle, not quite wholly taken with the effort, but certainly impressed by the spectacle on display. And perhaps one reason to buy a ticket besides the top notch special effects work, is a chance to hear M83 in surround sound.
That's right, the French electronic artist (for lack of a better term) has brought the synths and strings, and worked with Joseph Trapanese, to put together the score for "Oblivion." You already knew that, and if you bought the disc earlier this week then you're probably already enjoying it. But if you were waiting for one more extra push to open your wallet, Mondo has dropped a pretty tasty treat.
The company has unveiled a pretty striking 2xLP vinyl gatefold LP, illustrated by artist Kilian Eng. It's a pretty sweet design, one that evokes battered dime store sci-fi novels and also captures the "last man on Earth" flavor of the film. So nicely done, everyone.
How do you get this bad boy? Starting April 26th you can order it from MondoTees but if you want to buy it from your local record shop, you'll have to wait until May 28th. Check out the artwork and listen to the album below.
