So, Belle & Sebastian frontman Stuart Murdoch has made a movie, and will it be as aw shucks whimsical as the albums he's released? Judging by the first images from the movie, the answer appears to yes. And that just seems fine to us, because if you're a fan of the man's work already, a cast of good looking young leads in school uniforms and vintage clothes pretty much hits the bullseye. Said to be inspired by the French New Wave, the early post-punk movement in music and the films of John Hughes among other things (again, what's not to love?) the film stars Emily Browning, Olly Alexander and Hannah Murray and tells the tale of James (Alexander), a cynical guitarist who accompanies Eve's singing (Browning) and becomes a mentor to Cass (Murray), a teen who tags alongside the duo as she learns to play the guitar. We presume the emotions will be flying. The movie is based around the album of the same name, released as a side project by Murdoch in 2009. As for when...
