John Ary here with another installment of The Vulcan Vault. Our month-long event of special guest hosts continues with a stand-up comedy veteran, a Wizards of Waverly Place chancellor, a judge on Last Comic Standing, and a voice actor on animated shows like Bob's Burgers, Home Movies and Dr. Katz. Today Andy Kindler stops by Vulcan Video to talk about one of his favorite filmmakers, Albert Brooks.
In 1981, Brooks co-wrote, directed and starred in Modern Romance. He plays a film editor who continually sabotages his relationship with his nearly perfect girlfriend Kathryn Harrold while working on a campy sci-fi movie with the brilliant James L. Brooks. The film also features a batch of tremendous supporting performances from Bruno Kirby as an assistant editor, Bob "Super Dave Osborne" Einstein as a pushy sporting goods dealer, and the duo of George Kennedy and Meadowlark Lemon as the two coolest party guests ever.
Modern Romance is available on DVD and currently streaming on YouTube and Amazon. If you want to see more episodes of The Vulcan Vault, be sure to subscribe to the AICN YouTube channel and check back in here every Tuesday. Next week we've got a young filmmaker stopping by to talk about one of the Masters of Horror. If you want more clues as to her identity, hit me up on Twitter (@john_ary).
