Disney announced a new upcoming animated film earlier today at the D23 convention. Tangled director Byron Howard is onboard to helm Zootopia, which is described as a buddy action comedy that takes place in a world entirely inhabited by animals. Jared Bush (All of Us) is writing the script, and the story plays out against the backdrop of a contemporary setting in which animals take on anthropomorphic characteristics (ie. they wear clothes). The main characters of Zootopia are Nick Wilde, a fox, and Judy Hopps, a bunny. The mismatched duo will be at the center of the "buddy action" concept. Zootopia will be released sometime in 2016 by Disney Animation Studios. Look for our full coverage from the D23 convention later today, including panel recaps and interviews.
