Alan Taylor Talks Thor: The Dark World's Re-Shoots

More Hiddleston. You Loki people!

With an October UK release date approaching fast, Thor: The Dark World director Alan Taylor and his team are working like demons to get the film finished. Talking with Collider, he’s admitted that they’re adding scenes and changing things around to keep working on the thing up to the wire.

“We’re almost done cutting, primarily because we have so many visual effects that eventually you have to take your hands off it and let them do their magic,” says Taylor. “But we’re literally shooting some things this week, Anthony Hopkins is in town so we’re continuing to do what Kevin Feige calls ‘plus’ the movie, so there are new scenes being added even now, so if there wasn’t a release date we’d just keep on making it better and better.”

He’s quick to dispel recent rumours of major running time arguments between the director and the studio, though he does admit there was one issue where the two parties didn’t see eye to eye. “There’s a rumour out there that I was hanging on to a longer cut and that Marvel wanted it shorter. Hilariously, that was never an issue. I don’t even know what the running time is. The one fall out I had with Marvel was over music, there was a composer I wanted to go with and it didn’t work out for Marvel, so I was unhappy with that.”

As for the re-shoots, panic no. It’s all part of the plan, apparently. “It’s not like we screwed something up, it’s that we have time and money to add scenes – ‘what if we had a cool scene like this, then that would let something happen over here.' We find the movie in that process, which I am not used to.

The best news to come out of the chat: more Loki! “We’re adding scenes, writing new ones and we shot a fun connective scene with Tom Hiddleston recently, because we realised how well Loki was doing in the movie and we wanted to do more with him. And boy do the fans love it!” So we hear. For more from Taylor, head to Collider.

Thor: The Dark World will land on October 30 here before bringing the Thunder to the States on November 8.
