The legal battle between Prospect Park and ABC over licensed soaps All My Children and One Life To Live has been going on for four months now. And if the dispute is not resolved in Prospect Park’s favor, I hear that could spell the end of one of the soaps, OLTL, a season into its online revival. Prospect Park principal Jeff Kwatinetz confirmed to the LA Times that work is already underway on scripts for Season 2 of AMC, whose 43-episode first season just ended. There is no movement on OLTL, which too just finished airing its 40-episode freshman cycle. OLTL is at the heart of Prospect Park’s lawsuit against ABC, with some insiders pointing at the alleged damage to the franchise done by the broadcast network for the soap’s softer online performance than that of AMC. In Prospect Park’s complaint, the company claims that ABC breached their agreement and effectively sabotaged OLTL by “inexplicably killing off two OLTL characters (Cole and Hope Thomas) on loan to General Hospital by having their car forced off a cliff” and “effectively killing another OLTL character Tomas Delgado, who was not even licensed to ABC.” (In what Prospect Park calls "a gesture of good will", the company had previously allowed ABC "to borrow seven OLTL characters to appear on a limited basis" on the network's soap GH” so the actors stay employed until OLTL was up and running.)
