EXCLUSIVE: There are a lot of overachieving writers and producers this buying season scoring multiple big commitments. Writer Ben Queen (Cars 2) and Rashida Jones and Will McCormack’s Le Train Train, each behind a put pilot commitment already, have teamed up for A To Z, a single-camera romantic comedy, which has landed at NBC with a put pilot commitment. Written by Queen, A To Z follows a relationship between a young couple, comprehensively, from meeting to breakup, over the course of a season. There are no current plans for Jones and McCormack to star. The two are executive producing with Queen and Le Train Train’s head of development Jeff Grosvenor.
Queen, creator of the Fox series Drive, is writing an adaptation of the comic book Unthinkable for Fox with a put pilot commitment with Howard Gordon exec producing. This marks Warner Bros. TV-based Le Train Train’s third sale in the company’s first development season. It also has Stuck with Ali Rushfield at Fox with a put pilot commitment, and The Revengers with Kara Taylor at the CW.
Jones is finishing her last season on NBC's Parks & Recreations and will next be seen in the British indie Cuban Fury. Jones and McCormack previously wrote and starred in the romantic comedy Celeste And Jesse Forever, which premiered at the 2012 Sundance Film Festival and recently nabbed a Film Independent Spirit Award nomination for Best First Screenplay. The two are also currently writing the feature Frenemy Of The State for Universal/Imagine. The trio are repped by UTA and attorneys James Adams (Jones), Erik Hyman (McCormack) and David Weber (Queen).
