UWFF 13 Preview: Nelson George's 'Finding The Funk' (Doc On Origins & Influence Of The Music)
Sep 4th 2013, 21:54, by Tambay A. Obenson

S&A featured the Kickstarter campaign for this last fall, which was successful, and it has since entered the film festival circuit, debuting at the SXSW film festival last March. It'll next screen at the 2013 Urbanworld Film Festival (its 17th edition), presented by BET Networks, which take place September 18-22 at midtown Manhattan's AMC 34th Street

Author, filmmaker, producer Nelson George presents a documentary feature titled Finding The Funk, a journey through the origins and influence of funk music, from James Brown to D'Angelo. It's a Spotlight Selection at this year's Urbanworld event.

Among those to be featured in the film are: Sly Stone, Bootsy Collins, Mike D of the Beastie Boys, D'Angelo, Marcus Miller, Mtume, Nona Hendryx, Vernon Reid, Maceo Parker, Bernie Worrell, Steve Arrington, Reggie Hudlin, Sheila E, Shock G, and others.

Cliff Charles (he shot both Spike Lee Katrina documentaries) shot the film, and internationally-renowned producer Arthur Baker (who's worked with Bob DylanAl Green and Bruce Springsteen, amongst others) is executive producer.

The Urbanworld schedule isn't available yet, to tell us what days and times Finding The Funk will screen during the festival, so stay tuned.
