After the success of Paranormal Activity, Paramount launched Insurge Pictures in order to produce 10 low budget indie genre films a year. They’ve made zero.
They are finally making a movie as they’ve picked up Prism, a pitch from emerging writer Ian Fried, who has had two other scripts land on The Black List, THR writes.
The project is being closely guarded by execs but it is known to be in the low-budget sci-fi project.
It is thus fitting that John Davis, the veteran producer behind the low-budget sci-fi pic Chronicle, will produce Prism.
Insurge, which is Paramount's micro-budget branch, was established in 2010. Its first release was The Devil Inside, which went on to earn $101.8 million worldwide. They have yet to actually develop or produce any low budget fare.
