Veteran character actor James DuMont has joined the cast of Universal and Imagine’s James Brown biopic “Get On Up,” TheWrap has learned.
Chadwick Boseman stars as the Godfather of Soul, and he’ll be joined by Viola Davis, Octavia Spencer and Nelsan Ellis, as TheWrap first reported.

Tate Taylor (“The Help”) is directing the movie from a script by Jez & John-Henry Butterworth and Steven Baigelman. Imagine’s Brian Grazer and Jagged Films’ Mick Jagger are producing alongside Victoria Pearman and Erica Huggins. Taylor is also producing via his Wyolah Films, whose John Norris will executive produce.
DuMont will play a USO envoy named Corporal Dooley.
DuMont has roles in two awards contenders, playing Sherman Adams in “Lee Daniels’ The Butler” and Jared Leto’s father in “Dallas Buyers Club.” He also has a supporting role as a football coach/recruiter in Sony’s “When the Game Stands Tall” and will be seen in Lifetime and History Channel’s upcoming miniseries “Bonnie & Clyde: Dead and Alive,” which stars Emile Hirsch and Holliday Grainger as the doomed lovers.

On the TV side, DuMont recently completed a guest spot on ABC’s “Nashville” and just landed a recurring role as a doctor on FX’s “American Horror Story: Coven.” He also plays Capt. Richard LaFouchette on HBO’s “Treme.”
DuMont is repped by House of Representatives and manager Steven Adams of Alta Entertainment.
