Russell Crowe Set For Fathers & Daughters

From director Gabriele Muccino

He played one of the most famous fathers in fiction this year in Man Of Steel, and Russell Crowe intends to keep being the daddy on film. He’s signed on for a lead role in Gabriele Muccino’s latest drama, Fathers And Daughters.

Brad Desch penned the script, which Variety describes as a love story between a father and a daughter living in New York 25 years apart. Crowe is set to play a novelist who struggles with mental illness while also dealing with raising a young girl.

The plot segues between his story and his daughter’s, showing her as a 30-year-old woman dealing with the fallout from her troubled childhood. Muccino and the producers are currently looking for an actress to play the daughter. “This is a performance-driven movie, and therefore I couldn’t ask for a better actor than Russell to deliver this intensely emotional drama,” Muccino tells the trade mag. “It’s edgy, heart-wrenching, and uplifting at the same time. To me, it feels like a classic American movie that recalls the great character dramas of the 70s.”

Crowe has most recently worked on Akiva Goldsman’s Winter’s Tale and is Darren Aronofsky’s Noah in the eponymous Biblical tale due for release on March 28. He’s also preparing to direct and star in World War I drama The Water Diviner.
