On the heels of HBO’s announcement that “Girls” returns for its third season on Jan. 12, the network released a behind the scenes look on Friday.
In the video, creator and star Lena Dunham and other castmembers give fans a peek at what to expect when Season 3 returns. And the star discloses just how much fan tweets shape the coming of age series.
“I love watching the show and just refreshing, refreshing, refreshing Twitter,” Dunham said. “I really get to find out in real time whether we’re on to something and whether things feel real, because that has always been the intention of the show.”

Here are six things we learned from the first look video:
1. Hannah gets her shiz together… finally.
The show’s main character has landed on her feet. “We find Hannah and Adam [Adam Driver] in a relationship,” Dunham said. “She somehow managed to get back on solid footing with her book editor. She’s kind of in the best place we’ve seen her yet.”
2. Jessa (Jemima Kirk) is, well, Jessa.
What did you expect from the free-spirited Brit? “Jessa likes to kick up a lot of dust,” Kirk said. “Sometimes people make much larger strides to find themselves.”
3. Marnie (Allison Williams) is a brokenhearted mess.
We knew that there was a breakup in store for Marnie when the news broke that Christopher Abbot, who played Charlie, had left the series after Season 2. “Manically grieving is the phrase I would use to describe it,” Williams said. “She feels completely empowered while at the same time she’s completely falling apart like she always is.”

4. Shoshanna (Zosia Mamet) undergoes a sexual awakening.
“She’s made an active decision to be reckless, specifically sexually,” Mamet said. Dunham also added that the character gets a bit of a makeover she thinks fans will appreciate.
5. Something’s brewing with Ray (Alex Karpovsky)
“Ray is now like a coffee impresario,” Dunham revealed. “He’s kicking ass. He’s got a coffee-slash-pizza place, which means he only employs the most depressed girls in Brooklyn.”
6. Elijah (Andrew Rannells) is back.
Hannah’s ex-boyfriend’s return was always a nice fallback for Rannells. And now that his NBC show has been canceled, expect a lot more of him on Season 3. “He’s so fun and he’s so wise in such a rude, mean way,” Dunham said. “We needed that guy on the show.
