Film Society of Lincoln Center - 2013 NYFF Critics Academy Oct 20th 2013, 12:30, by Carlos Aguilar During the past New York Film Festival the The Film Society of Lincoln Center and Indiewire, in partnership with Film Comment Magazine held their annual NYFF Critics Academy, a workshop dedicated to nurture the talent of aspiring film critics and journalist as they cover the varied screenings and events at the festival. Eugene Hernandez, FSLC's Director of Digital Strategy said, "The Critics Academy is one part of our broader strategy aimed at bolstering cinema culture. In the past year, we have invested in both the expansion of FilmComment.com and in expanding our own editorial platform, FilmLinc Daily. Amidst changes in the business of journalism, we are committed to creating engaging content about film and this year the Critics Academy program returns to the New York Film Festival to mentor young critics and share their work with our online audience. Lukenbill Gus Reed Graham Winfrey The eight selected participants were able to attend sessions with working critics, filmmakers, and other distinct members of the film industry during the 17-day event. Their coverage of the festival will be published on FilmLinc.com, Indiewire's Criticwire and other outlets. Notable advisers included editors and writers of Film Comment Magazine, a publication that has become an important part of the initiative since its inception at the Locarno Film Festival a couple years ago. The Critics Academy is a prime opportunity for aspiring young talent to interact with industry professionals in a complex career that has no defined path and one that constantly changes as outlets become more technologically-driven. Thanks to the focused guidance the program provides, these individuals, who have already proven to have great potential, will be armed with the tools to succeed and become the next generation of opinion leaders in the film industry.
