Smart actors make sure they always have a few irons in the fire at any time, and of the best at selecting projects and letting them marinate is Nicole Kidman. We're not going to list the variety of stuff she's signed up for, but it's not because she likes the way her signature looks on a piece of paper, that she keeps many options at her disposal. It's just the kind of smart move that allows you to put the best foot forward whenever possible.
So with that mind, Kidman's Blossom Films has optioned A.S.A. Harrison's novel "The Silent Wife" which she'll produce and star in. The acclaimed book is a psychological thriller infidelity and marriage that winds up with murderous consequences. Here's the Amazon book synopsis:
Jodi and Todd are at a bad place in their marriage. Much is at stake, including the affluent life they lead in their beautiful waterfront condo in Chicago, as she, the killer, and he, the victim, rush haplessly toward the main event. He is a committed cheater. She lives and breathes denial. He exists in dual worlds. She likes to settle scores. He decides to play for keeps. She has nothing left to lose. Told in alternating voices, The Silent Wife is about a marriage in the throes of dissolution, a couple headed for catastrophe, concessions that can't be made, and promises that won't be kept. Expertly plotted and reminiscent of Gone Girl and These Things Hidden, The Silent Wife ensnares the reader from page one and does not let go.
The shifting perspectives of the narrative certainly offers up potential for some bold filmmaking, and we'd wager that's what drew Kidman to the material. As we said, this is all early stages, with a screenwriter needing to be found and more, but again, it's another example of Kidman lining up solid material with lots of potential. [Deadline]
