Papa Vinyard here, now here's a little somethin' for ya...

We have the trailer for BATMAN & ROBIN/A BEAUTIFUL MIND screenwriter Akiva Goldsman's directorial debut, WINTER'S TALE, and it's…kinda hard to describe. It's a time-spanning love story that starts about a doomed romance between a thief and a dying young woman, but then crosses over into present-day Manhattan where the thief is roaming around as…a spirit? A reincarnated version of his past self? Not really sure what's going on, or whether Russell Crowe's character is some sort of demonic figure or merely a brutish gangster, and the tone of the trailer borders a little too much on schmaltz for my taste.

But hey, I adore CLOUD ATLAS, and that film's trailer also failed to properly convey the complexities of that heavily romanticized narrative, so I'll give this one the benefit of the doubt based on the cast (which apparently also includes Will Smith, although I wonder why they wouldn't use him in the advertising) and the quality of the imagery. Crowe's look is awesome, and there is a ton of excellent location footage of New York City. Love that shot of Crowe intimidating Farrell on horseback.

This has been Goldsman's passion project for a few years now, so I'm thinking there may actually be something to this complex, ambitious narrative this trailer is trying to convey. Hopefully, the final film will be worthy of the talent involved, and can serve as Goldsman's entryway into the world of feature film directing.

What do you guys
