Director Alan Taylor's looking for Sarah ConnorWith a director finally in place – that would be Thor: The Dark World’s Alan Taylor – the next stage of the Terminator franchise is now searching for a cast to bring the film to life around some version of Arnold Schwarzenegger’s killer cyborg. The first names cropping up in consideration for the crucial role of Sarah Connor are Brie Larson, Emilia Clarke and Margot Robbie.
Connor, is of course, the woman played by Linda Hamilton in James Cameron’s original two Terminator films, who learns she is fated to birth the man who will lead the fight against the machine uprising and who becomes a warrior in her own right.
Taylor has yet to start screen tests and auditions, but according to the Hollywood Reporter, Larson, Clarke and Robbie are all on the list along with several other actresses whose names have yet to leak. Larson is drawing plenty of praise for her role in indie sensation Short Term 12, while Clarke is still best known for Game Of Thrones and is on our cinema screens now in Dom Hemingway. Robbie pops up as Charlotte in About Time and will be seen in The Wolf Of Wall Street.
In addition to Sarah Connor, Taylor needs to find a new Kyle Reese, the soldier from the future war zone to who travels back to fight the Terminator, meets Sarah and ends up fathering John Connor. Less is known about that casting process, though The Hollywood Reporter has heard that Garrett Hedlund is on the shortlist. There will, apparently, also be a decent role for a John Connor, and that may also end up cast with a known name.
