Spike Lee Sued Over Tweets About Trayvon Martin's Killer
Nov 12th 2013, 03:17, by Paula Bernstein

Spike Lee has been named in a negligence lawsuit regarding alleged Twitter posts about George Zimmerman, the man who killed Trayvon Martin in Florida on February 26, 2012, The Smoking Gun reports.

An elderly couple has filed the lawsuit against the director alleging that he tweeted the couple's address, identifying it as the home of Martin's killer. As a result, the couple said they received death threats.

In court documents attained by TSG, the couple, Elaine and David McClain, are asking for "in excess" of $15,000.

"While defendant intended to post the home address of George Zimmerman, he actually posted the address of plaintiffs Elaine McClain and David McClain," the complaint reads.

According to TSG, the couple originally reached a settlement with Lee in March 2012, but retweets of the director's original message continued to cause them problems.

In the couple's lawsuit, the McClains accuse Lee of "encouraging a dangerous mob mentality among his Twitter followers, as well as the public-at-large."
