Spike Lee Sued Over George Zimmerman Tweet
Nov 12th 2013, 02:00, by Tim Kenneally

Spike Lee could find tweeting to be a very expensive hobby.

The “Do the Right Thing” filmmaker is being sued by a couple whose address he falsely identified as being that of Trayvon Martin killer George Zimmerman, according to documents obtained by the Smoking Gun.

The suit, filed on behalf of Elaine and David McClain, claims that Lee tweeted out their Florida address along with George Zimmerman’s name to his 240,000-plus Twitter followers in March 2012.

“While defendant intended to post the home address of George Zimmerman, he actually posted the address of plaintiffs Elaine McClain and David McClain,” the complaint reads.

The suit notes that the McClains reached  a settlement with Lee on March 29, 2012, but numerous retweets of Lee’s initial message were made, along with threatening messages such as. “He gone learn today” and “Since Yall Gone Kill Him and Whatnot.”

“Subsequent to March 29, 2012, plaintiffs Elaine McClain and David McClain have suffered substantial injury,” the suit, filed in circuit court in Florida, reads.
