Hey Yo, Draven here.
Deadline is reporting that Universal is prepping a sequel to last year’s THE BOURNE LEGACY. It will be a continuation of Jeremy Renner’s Aaron Cross character and will not involve Matt Damon's actual Bourne character. They have hired Anthony Peckham (2009’s SHERLOCK HOLMES, INVICTUS) to script the film. No word yet on if Tony Gilroy will be returning but with them hiring a different screenwriter, I doubt it.
THE BOURNE LEGACY was one of last year’s biggest disappointments for me. I was really looking forward to it and it just came and went with barely a wimper. It wasn’t necessarily a bad film, just pointless and boring. I thought the whole point in Gilroy continuing the franchise was that he had found a creative and cool way to do so, but it ultimately ended up seeming like every other pointless franchise cash grab. Hopefully we will get something more with this new one, as Jeremy Renner definitely can bring the intensity, and is a great fit for the role.
What do you guys think? Were you fans of THE BOURNE LEGACY? Is continuing the series a good idea? Will Aaron Cross ever overcome his Chem addiction?
