As great a time as I've had at the movies this summer, basking in the glow of giant blockbuster after giant blockbuster, watching The Way, Way Back last weekend was a relief. A barely average waterpark stood in place of the massive action set pieces I had grown accustomed to. A teenager from a broken home struggling to find a shred of self-confidence was the substitute for the oft-used extinction of civilization as we know it stake. Although I hesitate to call the film great (I would reserve that attribute for the similarly-themed Adventureland if pressed), it was exactly what I needed at the time: a small-scale comedy/drama with both feet planted firmly on the ground and characters I could invest in. With films like The Way, Way Back currently playing nationwide, if you're still suffering from blockbuster sensory overload then you only have yourself to blame. My recommendation for curing the common blockbuster aside, this week's Top 5 includes the moving first trailer for Ben Stiller's The Secret Life of Walter Mitty, 2 Guns interviews with director Baltasar Kormakur and more, the first trailer and official images from David O.
