Film and TV News Round Up for August 2nd: Lake Bell's Next Project, SXSW Short to Lifetime and Sarah Hyland to Produce

Here's a news round up of some of the most notable television and film news from the past couple days. 

Modern Family's Sarah Hyland is going to star in and produce the indie comedy, See You in Valhalla. The film tells the story of Jo (Hyland) a young woman who returns to her small, gossipy hometown to reunite with her family after the death of her estranged brother. Hyland previously produced a short film starring her younger brother. She will be seen in the next season of Modern Family and in 2014 is starring in Vampire Academy: Blood Sisters

While Lake Bell's directorial debut In A World... (a must-see) isn't out until next week, but Bell is already making moves on her next feature. Her follow-up, tentatively titled What's The Point, aims to take a look at marriage. As Bell notes, it's still in the very early stages, so there aren't a lot of details but Bell described it as "an unromantic romance."

Cindy Chupack alongside Jake Kasdan have received a pilot production commitment at Fox for The Longest Date. The potential series is based on Chupack's upcoming memoir The Longest Date: Life as a Wife which examines the comedic and annoying aspects of marriage. The memoir is slated to hit bookshelves in January 2014. Kasdan will direct the pilot and Chupack is writing the script and executive producing.

Lifetime has ordered a pilot based on the SXSW short film, Sequin Raze, by Sarah Gertrude Shapiro. Shapiro alongside Marti Noxon co-wrote, Unreal, a behind the scenes look at a reality dating show following a young producer who has to manipulate her relationships with the contestants to get the most drama for the camera. Noxon will executive produce and Shapiro will produce. The original short starred Ashley Williams, Anna Camp and Frances Conroy. As of now, there is no word whether or not any of the three will be reprising their roles in the pilot.
